She was one of the greatest artists of all time. A German film Director.
I was 18 for the first time that I read about Leni. OH I loved her from the moment that I herd her story. She was born in Berlin in 1902. She studied painting and started her artistic career as a dancer.
An injury of the knee put an end to her sensational career. Then, she start play in the movies and she become famous as an actress, a film director, a film producer and a film reporter.
She was awarded for her documentary film "Triumph des Willens" and named after the Reich Party Congress 1934 in Nuremberg. The gold medal in Venice in 1935 and the gold medal at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1937. Also her world-famous film about the Olympic games made the same experience for her and she was awarded for that movie as well.
Riefenstahl heard presidential candidate Adolf Hitler speak at a rally in 1932 and was mesmerized by his talent as a public speaker. After meeting with Hitler she was offered the opportunity to direct Victory of Faith, an hour-long feature film about the fifth Nazi Party rally at Nuremberg in 1933.She produced most of the documentary movies about Hitler and she she was forced to leave the Germany after war because of that. Later she become a photographer and also in her late 90's she went to Africa and shot lots of interesting subjects.
She once survived from a crash in Sudan in 2000 while trying to learn the fates of her Nuba friends during the Sudanese civil war.
She published many books also her biography in 1995. Also she learned how to dive and she made her last documentary when she was 75. In 1978, she published a book of her below-water photographs, Korallengärten (Coral Gardens) followed by the 1990 book; Wunder unter WasserOn August 22, 2002, her 100th birthday, Riefenstahl released a film called Impressionen unter WasserUnderwater Impressions, an idealized documentary of life in the oceans. She was the oldest scuba diver in the world at this time.
